Character design touch up

Here are the characters again with a few minor touch ups being done. I guess the rest of the quirks that needs to be attended, will sort them selves out, when I start using the characters.

Take care!

Here are the main characters for Alla älskar... (Everyone loves...)

Here are the main characters for Fanny V.

And here are the main characters from Hämnare i Rött (Avenger in Red).

Character design part 3

This week I will show you the characters from my third upcoming comics project! This project is independent from the previous two, and is a thriller/horror story (of sorts) that takes place here in Gothenburg. These are photos and not scans and I know there are some small details that I will take care of!

At the moment I'm working with the teasers for these projects. A few pages to get a feel for the story and the characters, without telling the whole story...!

Why three projects you ask? Well, I kind of got the two last ideas almost simultaneous, and I kind of like to develop things...so...that's why...I guess...

Take care!

Character design part 2

Here are the characters for my second comics project. Although I don't want do write too much about it, but I can tell you that the story takes place in the 1930s in Gothenburg and is an action/adventure story.

The characters from last week are from a relationship comedy of sorts... So these two stories are independent from one another.

As I wrote last week, these are photos and not scans. As I have looked at the drawings/characters on my kitchen wall, I have noticed some small things that I will take care of... so the process here is an ongoing one...!

Take care!

Character design part 1

I know you don't believe it, and I have a hard time to do so myself... But...drumroll please...the character design is finished!!!!!!! Well, kind of... What I'm going to do now is to pin these drawings to the wall so I can have a gander at them from time to time. So that I can see if something must be changed to improve them.

The next step is to make the teasers for these comics projects. This will also function as a way to see if the characters work.

These are photos of the character sheets. When the time is right I will make scans of them and add them to my portfolio. Since I tend to play with my cards close to my chest I will not go into great detail about the projects or the characters. Because I don't want to jinx it!

You are very welcome to have a look at the main characters, for one of my upcoming comics projects!

Take care, and stay tuned next week for more characters!

The Analysis continues! Redux!

Well, what can I say, I felt bad to post stuff with photography of sub quality, so I scanned the suckers instead! For information of the drawings read the post below, it’s the same drawings! I’ve focused here on the style of Bruce Timm, save the first page which is from Wizard magazine.

As I’ve written below I’m analyzing/copying various styles to see what makes them great. When I do get to do my own character design I hope that it will be of a good mixture of inspirational material and my own creativity. Even though it would be kind of cool to be a Bruce Timm-copy, I don’t think he would think that would be as great as I would... But to tell you the truth I don’t know how the actual character design process will be like. So stay tuned!

One last thing, when I started this process I made a time schedule to help me be on track. That worked for a week or so... According to that schedule I would be in the middle of the character design process by now... but I think thusly, it’s better to let this phase take it’s time, and make sure that the quality will be as high as I can muster. Instead of hurrying something forward that will be of poorer quality.

Take care!

As I’ve written below, for the drawings below I paused my dvd-player and tried to get the character right for a limited period of time, so that is the reason why they are a bit more sketchy!

Some drawings at last!

Finally I can show you some drawings, it was some time ago that was a possibility! Currently I’m looking at various designs for the character design for my projects. To do this and get to try out the style I analyze the style. You might also say that I’m copying them, but analyzing sounds better...!

These drawings will function as inspiration for the design later on. How the end result will be, remains to be seen... this exercise also functions as a way to try and improve my skill set, or challenge me if you will. I’ve been really inclusive when I looked at stuff that I like, the styles you will see here are mainly from animation and comics.

Here are some pictures on the drawings so far!

Take care!

Character design and Inspiration

This week I've finished the character design for my main characters Quentin and Héloise. You can see a quick snapshot of the character sheets below. When I have begun drawing the comic there might be some small changes, but I'll take them as they come. Right now I'm working on the design for the supporting characters.

This week I've also realized that even though I like the current project that I'm working on, I'm already thinking on my next project and planning that. At first I thought that I didn't like the current one, but I do. And then I thought that it might be that the grass is greener on the other side, but I came to the conclusion that: the thought of the next project fuels me with inspiration, force and energy to finish the current project. As an example I can take my last project, the lipsync, when I was working on that I thought on this comics project and could hardly wait to get going, and now when I have, I'm thinking on my next project and planning that one. I guess that's how I work.

Another truth that I discovered this week is that my different ways of expression (animation, comics, icons, violins) gives inspiration and force to one another, and takes time and effort at the same time. Heavy, huh? What I mean is that the different expression or craft gives inspiration to other ways of expression. But at the same time when I'm working on one expression, that one takes time and effort that I could've given another expression. Heavy, indeed!

Take care!
